The Slim Beauty was shown to me by Dean
Butler who learnt from a Florida Tarpon
guide. It is a great knot for joining lines
that vary significantly in diameter. Once
learnt it is a very strong reliable
streamlined join that passes through guides
and rollers easily. |

1 - Do a double overhand knot in the leader.
Leave tag ends long, say 10". |

2 - Tighten overhand knot so that a figure 8
appears. |

3 - Pass end of double though the figure 8
as shown in Fig 3 and 3A

as shown in Fig 5. |

6 - The trick with this knot is in the
tightening. Firstly snug up, but don't over
tighten, the figure 8 in the leader by
pulling both ends of the leader. Then
tighten the double by pulling on the main
double against the main leader, not by
pulling the doubles' tag end. Repeat the
snugging up on both leader and double until
tight. Finally pull as tight as you can, put
as much pressure as you can on this knot.
Then trim tag ends as close as you wish.
As with all new knots, practice it
until you're confident with it and trust it. |
